Job Description

The Graphic Artist is responsible for creating unique, original and engaging surface design and graphics to be used in production of different product types including paper, hard home, soft home, sleepwear, in-store and digital artwork, and other internal initiatives. The Graphic Artist is also responsible for creating print ready files and following the review and sampling process through to production. The Graphic Artist collaborates closely with internal partners to ensure the Indigo brand is communicated in a strong and consistent manner, inspiring and engaging our customer


  • Design and creation of impactful graphics and artwork for proprietary product, packaging, campaign materials, in-store artwork and other initiatives, as directed
  • Development of original creative concepts that meet the given project's overall objectives and support the company's existing creative and visual guidelines
  • Create mood boards and planograms for journals, tableware, and wrap collections
  • Create colour palettes
  • Responsible for graphics and artwork from inception to final product, resizing and reformatting images based on needs of various product, packaging and artwork
  • Create placed graphics and print repeats for home, fashion, fashion accessories, journals, wrap, stationery, packaging, gift cards, candles, website, blog, emails, in-store artwork, and other initiatives
  • Create print colourways and color index prints for production
  • Create and assist with tech packs for Paper and Home categories
  • •Create comment charts and product line charts
  • Approve development and pre-production samples
  • Consult with directors, merchants, and other designers to create desired graphics
  • Use a variety of painting and drawing mediums as well as computer software such as Photoshop, Illustrator, Procreate, and Adobe Fresco to create the desired graphic artwork
  • Research available florals, photography and graphic elements that can be purchased
  • Retouch and re-colour purchased prints and images to ensure cohesion with season’s concept
  • Research new trends, inspiration images, and graphic styles, ensuring Indigo’s in-store and advertising presence meet the highest design, quality and content standards
  • Collaborate with others to drive flexible and iterative solutions, quickly and easily
  • Share technical knowledge with others and actively seek to learn from those more knowledgeable than yourself
  • Help others see the impacts of their efforts and proactively engage other functions to get input
  • Encourage others to freely share their point of view and be open to feedback
  • Model Indigo’s beliefs and convey a positive image in everything you do

  • Degree or diploma in graphic design or design-related field
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in an agency or in-house creative shop
  • Prior experience supporting national brands considered an asset
  • Extensive knowledge of graphics manipulation using Adobe Creative Suite
  • Excellent conceptual, visualization and design skills 
  • Demonstrated skills in surface design and graphic design
  • Thorough understanding and ability in graphic design and typography
  • Strong understanding of industry standards and best practices for design and development in a retail environment
  • Dynamic, driven, good-listener, team-oriented, with ability to handle and learn from constructive criticism
  • Exceptional organizational and communication skills
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines is essential to keep up in our fast-paced environment
  • Ability to balance impacts of deadlines and resources with style and quality requirements
