Job Description

The Director, Store Strategy & Transformation is responsible for program and project level management of Retail store modernization projects including oversight of the Store Development portfolio (store development planning, real estate pipeline planning, the execution of new store openings, full and partial renovations, store relocations, and other store projects). This position collaborates with Indigo’s senior leadership team and business leads to ensure all store specific strategic initiative projects are executed consistently across the organization with a high degree of strategic consultancy, communication, and collaboration. As the liaison between project stakeholders, the Director will serve as advisor and problem solver, providing the process, rigor and guidance required for successful project delivery. 

WHAT YOU’LL DO: 

  • Support formulation, implementation and execution of Indigo’s Store of the Future strategy by leading programs and projects across the organization
  • Collaborate with Real Estate to plan and manage Indigo’s Store Development program based on real estate commitments and landlord deadlines, strategic priorities and internal resources
  • Define the scope of Store Development projects with senior management based on business cases and strategic analysis
  • Implement process re-design or refinements to ensure scalability, with the goal of reducing overall project timelines
  • Support Indigo goals by executing on short to mid-term departmental goals (1 year)
  • Maintain a high level of strategic foresight by identifying customer and business needs, and adjusting departmental and team objectives accordingly
  • Routinely provide oversight and consulting of multiple store projects to achieve a unified Store of the Future transformational vision and provide direction to others for successful completion of value add, on-time, on-budget projects
  • Oversee Indigo’s Store Development portfolio while consistently driving internal and external project delivery teams to achieve all project milestones from planning through to sustainment
  • Prioritize and manage Store Development program timelines based on competing and frequently changing priorities.
  • Develop and actively manage cross-functional communications strategy to ensure full transparency between project stakeholders including, Executive Sponsors, Business Owners, and Project Delivery Teams.
  • Manage retail construction projects from initial planning and concept design to grand opening
  • Brief and work with cross-functional project delivery teams on approved Store Development projects to establish accountabilities and schedules for all project activities / milestones
  • Develop detailed project workback plans, and schedules, while identifying risks and implementing risk mitigation plans to ensure projects remain on track
  • Circulate and track schematic package(s) to project stakeholders for approval
  • Oversee Retail Operations production of detailed Execution Schedule to ensure all cross-functional deliverables are captured in the overall Project Schedule. Communicate all milestones to the Project Delivery Team and ensure buy-ins
  • Identify and manage issues and risks jeopardizing project success through regular updates to the business owner; escalate any risks or concerns to senior management
  • Oversee tracking and provide transparency on project budgets as well as the financial aspects of the change request process.
  • Manage cross-functional change management and deficiencies resolution process
  • Establish best practices and learnings through project closeout survey / meetings with field and project delivery teams to ensure experiences gained through project be applied in future initiatives; implement any process re-designs / refinements.
  • Ensure the execution of team deliverables and adapt team priorities based on changing needs
  • Set/adhere to team budgets, as applicable
  • Act as an advocate for the customer by placing them at the forefront of all design and decision-making processes
  • Embrace and seek out technology that creates high tech and high touch solutions for Indigo’s customers
  • Proactively identify and anticipate customer expectations and needs
  • Challenge the status quo by consistently identifying areas for improvement, diagnosing issues and working to resolve them

Qualifications

WHO YOU ARE:

  • 10+ years of demonstrated project management experience (Retail industry a plus)
  • University education or equivalent
  • Project Management Professional Certified (PMIs or similar PM certification)
  • Extensive experience in using a defined Project Management Methodology – initiating, planning, executing, controlling, and closing projects,
  • Experienced and skilled in developing and managing a project budget, estimating work effort, and organizing and coordinating project work
  • Strong analytical, customer service and relationship-building skills with attention to detail and the ability to problem-solve
  • Superior ability to garner followership, with both direct reports and via cross-functional teams
  • Highly effective relationship and stakeholder management capabilities
  • Ability to communicate effectively and lead others through change and new strategic initiatives
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team-based environment with multiple stakeholders at different levels
  • A strong reputation as someone who seizes opportunities and takes initiative as appropriate
  • Strong thought leadership, business acumen, and influence skills to lead in a matrix working environment
  • Strong project management skills from concept to implementation
  • Advanced computer skills required in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Project), Smartsheets, Dropbox, and the ability to read CAD
  • Position based in Toronto, Canada with the ability to travel with related documents, licenses, etc.
