Job Description


The Transactional Email Specialist builds, tests and launches simple to highly advanced email campaigns and interactive programs using the Email Service Provider (ESP) platform on-time, on-budget and without any errors. This position works closely with the overall Digital team as a part-owner of transactional emails, and will monitor, update, and create new transactional emails. In addition, this role works with the wider email marketing team on general email production, coding HTML, building targeting segments, and deploying campaigns. 

  • Lead the transactional email production and testing process within our ESP platform, including planning strategy, coding HTML/CSS, ensuring accuracy of content (spelling, format, image quality), data testing, and QA 
  • Support overall email marketing team with day-to-day email production, targeted campaigns, trigger updates, and QA when needed 
  • Monitor triggered email programs, including optimizing existing programs and developing of new programs 
  • Perform quality tests ensuring email rendering across variety of email clients and devices 
  • Setup email reporting dashboards, monitor trends, and analyze results 
  • Continually update email production process based on new tools, techniques, etc; effectively document process changes 
  • Liaise with ESP and keep up-to-date with platform changes, enhancements and updates 
  • Challenge the status quo by consistently identifying areas for improvement, diagnosing issues and working to resolve them 
  • Act as an advocate for the customer by placing them at the forefront of all design and decision-making processes 
  • Proactively identify and anticipate customer expectations and needs 
  • Embrace and seek out technology that creates high tech and high touch solutions for Indigo’s customers 
  • Challenge the status quo by consistently identifying areas for improvement, diagnosing issues and working to resolve them 
  • Collaborate with others to drive flexible and iterative solutions, quickly and easily

  • 3+ years HTML coding experience 
  • 1+ years hands-on email development experience 
  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in computer science or software engineering, or equivalent experience 
  • Experience with data driven transactional emails 
  • Understanding of CRM, segmentation and direct/database marketing is an asset  
  • Strong technical, creative, and analytical aptitude 
  • Strong HTML & CSS email coding proficiency including cross-client best practices 
  • Experience with responsive email development 
  • Experience working with enterprise-level ESPs (experience with Oracle Responsys preferred) 
  • Experience building and testing complicated personalized emails with RPL, Ampscript, etc 
  • Knowledge of email industry best practices including contact strategies, targeting and segmentation, A/B testing, and analytics 
  • Advanced understanding of boolean logic 
  • Experience collaborating across multiple departments to execute projects 
  • Extreme attention to detail, organized and process focused 
  • Ability to manage time effectively, prioritize requests, understand directions and work independently in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines 
  • Knowledge about email accessibility is an asset 
  • Working knowledge of French is an asset 
  • A natural curiosity with an eagerness to learn and improve
