Job Description


The Specialist, HR Technology will be responsible for evaluating, analyzing, designing, and maintaining the company Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS) and related technology. This Specialist will support the implementation and ongoing configuration, effectiveness, and enhancement of the UltiPro Human Capital Management (HCM) system, processes, procedures, and practices, inclusive of interdependencies and interfaces to all other related HR systems. The Specialist, HR Technology utilizes their strong functional and technical knowledge of automated payroll/HRIS systems under a SaaS environment, plus their strong understanding of best practices, legislative requirements and complex business rules to optimize technology business outcomes and employee experience.  

HR System Implementation & Maintenance:

  • Act as the project lead for the implementation of UltiPro HCM including project management support, documentation, analysis, communication, and collaboration with internal and external partners. 
  • Effectively support the implementation and on-going configuration of the Canadian and US aspects of the UltiPro system and take a lead role in dealing with more complex business requirements and changes.  
  • Conduct functional testing, develop test scripts and seed data, plus oversee the test environment.  
  • Prepare and execute system updates, rolling out new features and functionality to optimize performance and usability. 
  • Oversee the development of configuration documentation and management procedures, including business continuity planning as it relates to the HCM application and functional areas like payroll, recruiting and on-boarding. 
  • Support change management including development of user procedures, reference guides and other documentation as needed.  
  • Develop training materials, and educate employees and new system users on functionality. 
  • Serve as escalation point for HR and Payroll teams on researching and resolving system or integration issues and unexpected results or process flaws.  
  • Act as a system administrator and super user of all HR systems. This includes working directly with internal partners and external vendors as a technical resource when introducing or making changes to integrations and providing education and day-to-day support to leaders and employees. 
  • Ensure data quality, control, integrity and security of all configuration within the UltiPro database any other relevant systems. 

HR Technology Lead:

  • Provide input into defining and developing the HR Technology strategy which includes continuous improvement, optimizing best practices and introducing new and/or enhanced technology.  
  • Provide support and technical advice on the HCM software, ancillary systems and tools to be used to achieve best practices, process improvements as well as user experience and adaption.   
  • Collaborate with the broader HR team to analyze work process design and flow, recommend best practices, optimize technology and maintain data integrity.  
  • Provide thought leadership on process efficiency, user experience and technology enablement.  
  • Support all Employee Social/Networking systems (including OurIndigo, Navigate, IndigoShare) from a technical and customer support perspective. 
  • Build intelligence and insights from our people data. Prepare dashboards on workforce metrics for leadership teams and stakeholders. Support ad hoc reporting requests as necessary 
  • Challenge the status quo by consistently identifying areas for improvement and best practice, diagnosing issues and working to resolve them 
  • Maintain in-depth knowledge of relevant legislation to ensure compliance:  ESA, CRA, MRQ, Service Canada, WSIB, corporate/company policies and procedures, etc. 
  • Collaborate with others to drive flexible and iterative solutions, quickly and easily 
  • Help others see the impacts of their efforts and proactively engage other functions to get input 
  • Encourage others to freely share their point of view and be open to feedback 
  • Take an active role in fostering a culture of continual learning, taking risks without the fear of making mistakes

  • 5+ years of experience in an HR systems and technology capacity. 
  • Bachelor’s degree in HR Management, IT and/or Business Administration or a related field 
  • Strong technical and functional knowledge of HCM systems and integrations.  
  • Experience in implementation and management of large-scale HR technical applications  
  • Strong technical and functional knowledge of HCM systems and integrations. 
  • Experience with Ultimate Software is an asset. 
  • Strong project management experience with ability to partner across functional teams. 
  • Proven ability to communicate technical details in a clear and usable form to end users.  
  • Expertise in people analytics and data reporting. 
  • Strong understanding of HR operations from a business perspective, and ability to translate requirements and drive the solutions. 
  • A systems thinker who is comfortable with data and proactively gathers it from appropriate sources to make the right decisions. 
  • Proven ability to both influence behaviour and product adoption though comprehensive training, communications and stakeholder management. 
  • Excellent verbal and written communicator with an ability to engage at all levels in the organization (including technical teams, field users, and executive management). 
  • Strong analytical skills and excellent organization and planning skills. 
  • A solution-oriented individual with exceptional attention to detail, comfortable in a fast-paced, confidential environment. 
  • Occasional travel may be required
