Job Description


The Designer, technical is responsible for ensuring that all Indigo private label products fit brand and quality control standards, across all categories. The Designer is responsible for partnering closely with Product Designers, Sourcing and Merchant teams to ensure that product designs are innovative, exceed Merchant expectations, and delight customers, while being of excellent quality and representative of the Indigo brand. This role will ensure the Indigo brand is strong; maintaining and setting the quality bar for creative at a level that is amongst the top tier within the industry.

•    Evaluate product, identify potential issues, and make recommendations for improvement to ensure all private brand product meet brand and quality standards
•    Concurrently develop and manage the technical specification packages for prototypes across multiple seasonal collections, with 200-500 SKUs per season depending on category
•    Assist the sourcing team with vendor selection for production of each collection item, considering each product’s specific requirements and travelling internationally for vendor meetings as required
•    Source new vendors, in partnership with Sourcing team, if current vendors are not able to support the requirements for planned product
•    Collaborate with sourcing team and vendors to resolve any product issues, to ensure that product meets both brand and quality standards
•    In collaboration with Product Designers, manage samples and sample review process, ensuring that samples meet standards and product specifications 
•    Keep up-to-date and informed of emerging trends, ensuring Indigo’s product design meets the highest design and quality standards
•    Maintain documentation and reports of all relevant product data for production
•    Act as an advocate for the customer by placing them at the forefront of all decision-making and design processes
•    Proactively identify and anticipate customer expectations and needs
•    Embrace and seek out technology that creates high tech and high touch solutions for Indigo’s customers
•    Challenge the status quo by consistently identifying areas for improvement, diagnosing issues and working to resolve them



•    3-5 years’ experience in product design and development, preferably within retail and fashion industries
•    Post-secondary degree in design
•    Excellent conceptual, visualization and design skills, CAD Illustrator and Photoshop skills are an asset
•    An understanding of craftsmanship and continuity
•    Strong attention to detail and professionalism
•    Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
•    Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
•    Ability to work cooperatively on a team to achieve overall best results
•    Strong time management skills with a proven ability to focus on multiple priorities and meet deadlines
•    Strong understanding of industry standards and best practices for design and development in a retail environment
•    Creative and innovative approach to problem solving
•    High degree of self-motivation
