Job Description

WHAT YOU’LL DO: 

As the Associate Category Manager, you will be responsible for creating curated assortments and compelling storytelling for the French print business, as well as supporting the department in delivering the financial goals across the category while driving exceptional customer experience.  

  • Own positioning of key sales opportunities for the French Print business
  • Own Analysis and Research in support of category strategies and departmental quarterly/yearly plans:
    • Trends
    • Pricing
    • Competition
    • Customer Demand
    • Market share
    • Promotions
  • Lead in the development of customer facing stories/themes across departments that increase our customers’ engagement with the stories in both channels
  • Collaborate with online and editorial teams to integrate decision support materials and theme/title opportunities within overall Indigo online customer stories
  • Initiates title curation for customer facing stories/themes, department specific stories and merchandising plans
  • Provide insight from business analysis and reporting, to identify customer demand opportunities for category assortment
  • Lead in the development and planning of the customer ‘stacks’ experience of department
  • Collaborate with marketing teams to broadcast/spread Indigo materials and build category awareness
  • Develop decision support materials for all external and internal channels for the key opportunities
  • Effectively seek out and maintain positive vendor relationships focusing on finding new and brand appropriate merchandise. Negotiate favorable terms with vendors to maximize sales and profits
  • Seek out and identify new opportunities to grow and expand category by benchmarking competition and finding new categories, products and best practices
  • Lead planning and assessment of department promotions and department hindsights
  • Lead key initiatives in support of department/Print strategy
  • Support other key initiatives as subject matter expert
  • Act as an advocate for the customer by placing them at the forefront of all decision-making and design processes

Qualifications

WHO YOU ARE: 

  • University degree, in business or related field
  • 3-5 years of experience in buying and category management of specialty retail departments, book retail or publishing industry
  • Proven and demonstrated leadership experience
  • Customer-centric approach
  • Communicates a compelling and inspiring vision and sense of core purpose
  • Proven ability to negotiate effectively with external business partners
  • Ability to learn and adapt in a constantly changing environment
  • Comfortable handling risk and uncertainty
  • Creative approach to problem solving and innovation
  • Results driven with the ability to understand problems and recommend solutions
  • Ability to establish professional and productive relationships based on trust and integrity  
  • Strong desire to learn and grow within the organization, with an understanding that development is an employee’s own responsibility
  • Advanced Excel Skills required
  • 5% travel required to trade shows, regional stores and promotional events
  • Must be Bilingual (French and English) in written and verbal communications
